Bushcraft Enthiousiasts Gathering

The gathering was a success with approx. 20 weekend visitors and another 30 or so day-time visitors. We completed a challenge and ran a (non-ceremonial) sweat-lodge for whoever was interested. The chat around the fire was fantastic, and the level of knowledge shared by all present throughout the weekend was inspiring.
We cannot wait to organise another meeting on the 4th. And 5th. of April. Hopefully the weather will be as good as the weather we had this past Sunday!

Thank you all for coming to Castle Ward and making the gathering such a success!

Wilderness and Outdoor First-Aid course and Wilderness First Responder courses added to the schedule.

Aebhric O' Kelly will be with us to teach participants the above two courses in April 2009.
The 80 hour total courses are the industry standard for wilderness guides, outdoor enthusiasts, and troop leaders. It is based on the protocols of the Wilderness Medical Society guidelines.

More information about these two courses is available from the courses page.

Internship

As of the 10th of September, we will be joined by our first ever intern Moritz. Moritz is working on an eco-forestry degree in Germany, and will be with us until the end of February. During this time he will be learning how our school operates, how we look after the woodlands and our course participants.
He will also receive daily mentoring in the primitive skills we offer.

From April 2009, his place will be available to you, so if you are interested in what Wild-Live have to offer over the summer and would like to learn more about the way we operate, then send an e-mail containing your CV and a clear cover-letter of your intentions. (Lodging is provided, all applications will be reviewed in the month of February)

Welcome to the brand-new web-site.

We felt that the old one, started in 2001, was becoming dated and that it gained in too much complexity over the past years.
This new site will hopefully appear a little friendlier and prove easier to navigate.

You may find the odd error over the next few weeks. If you do, then please help us fix it by sending us an e-mail about it.
Any other comments are of course also highly appreciated.
Enjoy the site…

Caretaking and volunteering

Wild-Live will help with care-taking the woodlands around the teaching sites. It is a great opportunity to involve volunteers in developing Irish Mesolithic and Neolithic shelters in the teaching area. Opportunities also exist for volunteering for courses which you have already taken to enhance the experience for students - helping with cooking, the running of the camp, and sitting in classes as much as possible during the course..
We will place more information on this page as it becomes available, but we welcome your e-mails should you be interested.

Summer Camp

As we now work alongside the National Trust, new events and courses are available, which you will see rolled out over the coming months.

To start off, we have organised a summer camp for children between the ages of 6 and 12 to take place in August. You will be able to find out more information in the "events" section and also through the National Trust directly. Bookings will be handled by the National Trust.

Wild-Camping

We have decided to open up the teaching site (where possible) to genuine bushcrafters for short-term private use.
This means that you may be able to practise your skills, organise small meet-ups or simply camp in peace with a camp-fire.
There will be a fee involved per person per night to help us cover our insurance and the administrative work involved. If you are interested, send us an e-mail so we can dicuss it.

Please note that at times the site may not be available.
